In 2008 California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (A division of the California Environmental Protection Agency also known as CAL/EPA) concluded a new risk assessment of elemental mercury (mercury vapor) and adjusted its chronic reference exposure levels down to 0.03 μg Hg/m3. This level is ten times lower than the outdated (created in 1995) and flawed chronic mercury reference exposure levels of 0.3 μg Hg/m3 as set by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
