The EPA’s Reference Concentration (RfC) of 0.3 ug/m3 was approved in 1995. The RfC is an estimate (with uncertainty spanning perhaps an order of magnitude) of a daily inhaled exposure of the human population (including sensitive subgroups) that is unlikely to cause an appreciable risk of harmful effects during a lifetime. EPA used the Fawer 1983 study as their primary reference to develop a Reference Concentration (RfC) of 0.3 ug/m3 [EPA 1995].
