Biocompatibility Testing

No dental material is right for every person. Biocompatibility testing identifies which materials are least reactive for your unique immune system, a cornerstone of biological dentistry.

Core Principles

Why Compatibility Matters

01

No Material is Universal

No dental material is "the best" for every person. The human body is dynamic, changing over time. Any product that's not part of the body is recognized as foreign and may cause a reaction.

02

Individual Reactivity Matters

The goal is to determine which materials are least reactive for each individual, what works well for one patient may trigger inflammation or immune response in another.

03

Whole-Body Impact

Dental materials sit in direct contact with living tissue for years or decades. Even low-grade reactivity can contribute to systemic inflammation, immune burden, and chronic health issues.

Testing Methods

How Compatibility is Determined

The most common techniques evaluate your body's response to dental materials through different biological pathways.

Serum (Blood) Compatibility

Analyzes how your blood serum reacts to dental materials. The Clifford Materials Reactivity Test (CMRT) is the most well-known, screening thousands of dental materials against your immune profile for accuracy comparable to standard blood sugar or cholesterol testing.

Meridian Stress Assessment (EAV)

Electro-dermal screening that measures the body's energy responses to specific materials through acupuncture points. A non-invasive method that evaluates how each substance interacts with your body's energy meridians.

Applied Kinesiology

A muscle-response testing technique that evaluates how the body responds to substances by measuring changes in muscle strength. Often used as a complementary screening method alongside other tests.

Should You Test?

When to Consider Biocompatibility Testing

Testing is especially important for patients with chemical sensitivities and allergies, but anyone committed to whole-body health can benefit from a personalized approach to material selection.

  • You have chemical sensitivities, allergies, or a compromised immune system
  • You've had reactions to dental work in the past
  • You're planning extensive dental restoration with multiple materials
  • You have autoimmune conditions or chronic inflammation
  • You're committed to minimizing your body's toxic burden
  • You want a personalized approach to dental material selection

Personalize Your Dental Care

A biological dentist can guide you through biocompatibility testing to ensure the materials in your mouth support, not burden, your whole-body health.
