Certification shows that you have a well-defined knowledge base and understanding of treatment protocols in line with the broad concept of biological dentistry. The IABDM certification badge and terminology have the distinction of having applied and been approved to have the Registered Trademark ®. When a candidate becomes Certified through the IABDM, only then can they call themselves a Certified Biological Dentist ®, Certified Biological Hygienist ®, or Certified Biological Assistant ® Your certification badge stands as a kind of seal of approval and a badge of honor showing your dedication to growing your knowledge and expertise in the practice of biological dentistry.
Certification for Dentists
Basic Certification (C-IABDM)
The exam is designed as a learning experience. Each question includes resources and reading materials to educate you in biological dentistry. Topics covered include homeopathy, meridians, basics of mercury removal, fluoride, and cavitations.
Certification Requirements
- IABDM membership in good standing
- Attendance at one of our annual meetings: We removed this due to COVID and the fact that we put the Bio 101 in the video modules.
- Step Two: Watch Biological Essentials, a 17 module course covering the rudiments of biological dentistry and pass each post-module exam with a score of 80% or better.
- You MUST show proof of having taken an ozone course AND HAVE INVESTED IN APPROPRIATE MEDICAL GRADE OZONE GENERATOR EQUIPMENT (THEY CAN RUN FROM RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE AT ABOUT $700 TO THE FLAGSHIP MODELS AT ABOUT $7000) . The following courses are accepted.
- Phil Mollica comes to you or you can come to his office.
- KT seminars with 5 hours of CE
- Dr’s Robert Harris and Griffin Cole can come to your practice.
- Presentation of two amalgam removal cases using the PROTECT Protocol
For the case presentation, the candidate will submit before/after and pre-op radiographic images at least 48 hours before their presentation. Word, PowerPoint or standard image formats (e.g., .jpg, .gif, .bmp, .png) are acceptable. The candidate and examiner will meet via Zoom, Skype, or other conferencing platform to discuss the case. Points to be covered include:
- Pertinent medical history.
- Dental status.
- Your protocol for safe amalgam removal.
- Any prep care you provide your patient.
- Your office’s mercury-safe precautions.
- Your own mercury hygiene activities (e.g., chelation, et al)
- Health benefits that may have been attributable to the removal process.

Biological RDA / Hygienist Certification / Staff Certification / Receptionist
From the first call to the office, the biologically trained and certified dental receptionist can answer questions about office therapies that are specific to biological practices that will help ease patients’ concerns, and they will be able to address the patients’ questions with confidence.
A biologically trained and certified dental assistant will understand the materials used and the philosophies of therapies to aid the doctor in the delivery of treatment and enhancing treatment success.
A registered dental hygienist that is trained and certified in the practice of biological dentistry will have a full understanding of the oral-systemic connection and how their periodontal therapies can shift the patients’ terrain to a higher level of health by utilizing safe and effective biological therapies that are adjunctive to their hygiene training and licensure.
Certification in Biological Dentistry is a full learning experience empowering the office to be able to work synergistically for the benefit of the patients and team alike. We are proud to be the very first organization to have certifications for Biological Dental Hygienists, Biological Dental Assistants, and Biological Dental Receptionists in addition to Biological Dentists.
Registered Dental Hygienists, Registered Dental Assistants, and office staff are encouraged to become certified to work in a biological dental office. You can earn your registration in four easy steps – and earn 25 hours of PACE CE in the process.
Step one: Each staff member MUST have their own membership account. It’s easy to register to be an IABDM member.
Step two: View Biological Essentials, a 17 module course covering the rudiments of biological dentistry and pass each post-module exam with a score of 80% or better.

Step three: Do one of the activities below.
- Write an article about using natural approaches in an oral cavity and submit it to our education committee for review.
- Complete a small study and present it to our education committee via Skype.
- Do a PowerPoint case presentation about a patient that shows you thinking outside the box of a regular hygiene visit and submit it to our education committee for review.
- Do a video worthy of being on YouTube about a topic in biological dentistry. Be creative and make it fun!
Step four: Complete a brief capstone interview with the chair of our oral hygiene committee (held via Zoom).

Fellowship (FIABDM) - Dentist & Dental Hygienist
Dentist
Candidates for Fellowship need to be certified, have at least 3 years of IABDM membership, and have attended at least 3 meetings (annual or regional). You must also have taken a course in nutrition, such as our online course designed and taught by Dr. Al Danenberg.
You must also present a case study which must include a biological extraction, a research project or peer-reviewed article, and proof of 4 hours of community service.

Dental Hygienist
Candidates for Fellowship need to be Certified, have at least 3 years of IABDM Membership, and have attended at least two meetings (annual or regional, live, or virtual). You must attend at least six live study clubs in a year and recruit at least two new members.
You must also present a case study which must include biological periodontal therapy or a research project on a biological topic or a peer-reviewed article with research references.

Mastership (MIABDM) - Dentist & Dental Hygienist
Dentist
Candidates for Mastership must be IABDM Fellows in good standing, with 5 years of membership in the Academy. You must prove you have taken a course in one of the following areas: homeopathy, airway or craniosacral therapy, or EAV or muscle testing, and present 2 more case studies of your choice.
You must also show proof of lecture experience – in an academic setting, online, at conferences, etc. This helps establish you as a teacher – one we would be proud to claim and help share the word.

Dental Hygienist
Candidates for Mastership must be an IABDM Fellow in good standing with five years of membership in the Academy. You must prove you have taken courses in 2 of the following areas: Nutrition, Airway/Myofunctional Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, EAV, Muscle Testing/Kinesiology, Ozone, and Chinese Tongue Diagnosis. If you are looking to take another course not listed, you can submit it for approval from the education committee. You also need to present one more case study or article of your choice (the criterion is the same as Fellow).
You must show proof of lecture experience- in an academic setting, online, at a conference, etc. OR active recruitment of a minimum of 6 new members from the dental community. This establishes you as a teacher and proponent of the practice of biological dentistry- one we would be proud to claim and help share the word.
